Why Do Perennials Come Back Every Year?
If you are a new garden owner, how do perennials come back every year? Most of the time I see that people do not want to plant flowers because they think that the “perennials” die each year. However, this is not true. Perennial flowers can be very hardy plants and can survive even the worst weather conditions. It takes some careful planting and maintenance to make sure that you plant them properly and they do not die or go into a hibernation like so many other plants. The following are some common ways of planting perennials that work well.
The first thing you need to consider is the type of plant. Many flower gardeners simply plant anything and it will bloom all year round. This is not a good idea. You must have some sort of a plan for each flower that you plant. A flower garden should be planned out several months before planting.
Perennial flowers should be planted at the same time each year. There are exceptions to this rule sometimes but generally this rule is followed. Some plants bloom more frequently than other plants. There is no better way to tell which plants will bloom more often than other plants than to plant them and see for yourself. If you cannot find the flowers that you are interested in for the season you are planting then cut them off and plant something else that is more suitable to the climate of the area you live in.
Different perennial plants have different requirements in regards to soil, light and water. One flower that will work well in any area of a flower garden is the Iris. Iris plants bloom during the spring and early summer. This is the perfect time to plant an Iris in your flower garden. Iris plants are fairly hardy and can survive droughts as long as they get plenty of water.
There are several other plants that will also bloom at various times of the year. Tulips will bloom from late spring to late summer. These tulips like full sunlight and do not need much water. Another plant that will come back year after year is the gladiola. This rose bush like all roses loves the sun and will grow pretty much anywhere. They will however need a lot of fertilizer to help them grow.
Spring bulbs such as daffodils and crocuses can also be planted in the spring to replace those that have gone to sleep in the fall. Most perennials do not come back year after year but there are some exceptions such as the bladderwrack, blue star and clematis. Some perennials to bloom again in the fall and winter but do not come back until the next year. These plants are known as annuals.
If you have ever asked “Why do perennials come back every year?” you might want to consider planting a flower garden. Flowers have a lasting beauty and add a wonderful touch to any landscape. In addition to adding color, flowers also provide the necessary nutrients for your soil. You can purchase flower seeds or grow your own from a variety of perennial plants.
When considering plants for your landscape, it is best to plant something that will thrive throughout the entire season. This means that you do not have to constantly replace those plants that go dormant in the fall. Do not be afraid to experiment with various perennials in your garden. It is important to keep an eye on the weather and do what is needed to make your garden thrive even during the worst of weather conditions. So why do perennials come back each year, after all they do deserve the best?
