Small Backyard Landscape Ideas on a Budget
We live in an apartment so the small backyard landscaping design we chose for our apartment was pretty standard and boring. However, we still wanted something special to our small space. So we decided to check out some books on small backyard landscaping ideas on a budget. We found a lot of information on what kinds of plants and flowers to use and how much stuff we would need. Here are some of our favorite small backyard landscape ideas on a budget.
Our budget for our small backyard landscape idea was minimal. We wanted something we could use as an accent piece around the pool or patio. So we went with tall bushes and ferns. Tall and bushy plants provide shade and privacy while you sit and relax at your little apartment. Ferns are relaxing and make you feel like you are in a forest. They come in a multitude of colors and can be used in any color scheme you like.
If you do not have the space for big trees, then you might want to consider small trees that grow only a few inches tall. The flowers they produce are breathtaking and you get all the benefits from having a tree that comes right up to your front door. These trees do not take up much room and will add charm and style to any apartment in your neighborhood.
Our next choice was a mix of ferns and evergreens. I had planted both ferns and evergreens in my other apartment gardens but it was time to expand. I chose plants like hydrangeas, gardenia, catkins, and fruit trees. I also put in a small section of black onyx trees. Hydrangeas look great in an apartment garden and add color, privacy, and texture to any small space.
There are many ways you can grow plants, even if you do not have a large backyard. You do not need to be an experienced gardener to have a small backyard garden. All you need is a little creativity and some patience. I started with plants that do not need much attention from you and tried to build up a small collection of plants.
Plants like these include collard greens, turnips, and rocket, as well as many others. Some of the apartment gardens I built included plants like clematis, fennel, basil, and thyme. I also added some shrubs like boxwood and dwarf cherry blossom.
When choosing plants, think about what you will use them for. If you plan to put flowers in them, then think about the size of flower that you would like to have. If you want something that will grow and thrive indoors, then choose something that has a hardiness that matches your apartment building or house. You can save a great deal of money by growing your own plants and flowers indoors. Here are a few small backyard landscape ideas on a budget for ideas on what plants would work best:
I did not include any trees in my apartment gardens because they take up a lot of room and do not do much for your apartment. The plants that I did include were small shrub like a tomato, a watermelon, and a pineapple. All of these plants were in pots and did well indoors. A few of my favorite plants are a tomato and a watermelon, they look great together in a small indoor container. If you are looking for a plant to bring color and beauty to your apartment, a small herb garden is a great idea, look for herbs like chives, basil and oregano, they are all easy to grow.
