Large Patio Planters – Different Types of Container Gardening

Large patio planters come in two different types: metal and clay. Each one has its own benefits, so that is the first thing you need to decide. The next thing to decide is whether you want to plant plants right out on your large patio planters or if you want to container garden. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Here is a little about both container gardening and pot gardening, including some tips on choosing the right planters.

Metal large patio planters are made from either aluminum or steel, depending on the finish. They are lightweight, can handle rain and snow, and they can withstand extreme temperatures. Metal planters are not as attractive as clay, and they are not as durable as the latter. However, they do drain well, have good drainage, and are very attractive.

You can buy large patio planters either pre-painted or you can buy them pre-drilled and ready to go in most cases. Clay planters have their advantages, which include being easier to work with since there aren’t any wires to run through the plants, they don’t need to drain like metal planters, and you don’t have to paint them in order to keep them looking their best. Clay planters require no drainage because they are completely watertight. This means that all of the water is absorbed by the soil. Clay planters are heavy, and you will probably want to use a pickax to move them from one location to another when they become too heavy.

If you are going to be planting directly into a container bed, then you want to choose a plan with plenty of drainage. The deeper the container, the more you should have drainage. If you have a deep enough spot to lay down your planting, then just make sure that the area has a slope to it, so that the water doesn’t sit on the ground forever. It’s a good idea to get a digital potter, so that you can actually monitor the growth of your seedlings.

Make sure that you have a good, healthy selection of plants to plant with your container garden. This is extremely important, as the type of plant that you select will dictate the size and health of the final result. You want a mixture of fast growing, dry, hardy plants, and medium or slow growing plants, that are easier to maintain. When choosing your container plants, it’s best to stick to plants that can tolerate shade, so that they won’t get scorched if the sun hits them hard during the day. Most container plants can tolerate shade, but some, like cacti, need a lot of direct sunlight in order to thrive.

One great plant to place in your container garden is the California Poppies. These birds of paradise are full sun loving plants and can survive even in the driest of conditions. The Poppies don’t grow very tall, but the flowers do offer lovely pink blossoms, and are very easy to care for. The cultivar that you choose will determine how much shade the plant gets, so be sure that you choose one that’s going to mature in a reasonable amount of time.

If you’re looking for a flowering plant that can be placed in a pot on the side of your home, you should definitely pick up a container of astilbe. The leaves on an astilbe look quite unique, and are quite large. They range in color from creamy white to a slightly pinkish tint and have tiny red blooms that are quite large and colorful. If you grow these plants indoors, you might want to put a pot on the window sill, and keep them out of direct sunlight, but don’t be afraid to let them get a little sun. The flowers have a gorgeous fragrance, and the aroma will knock your socks off if you get a chance to inhale it.

As you can see, there are several types of large patio planters, including container planters, buttermilk planters, and astilbe. You can get the idea that there are many different plants you can use to decorate your patio. You simply need to choose the right type of container, and plant the one you like best. It really is as easy as that!
