How Often to Water a Closed Terarium

Many people are not sure on how often to water a terrarium, but they can be sure that it is imperative that the water in the aquarium is replenished at all times. A terrarium, as any aquarium enthusiast will tell you, is a completely natural habitat for all types of plants and animals. With that being said, a plant or animal needs water constantly to survive.

How often to water a closed terrarium is entirely based upon the type of terrarium that you have. A glass terrarium will not need as much water as a terrarium made out of other materials. In addition, there are many different temperatures that a terrarium can be set up in. If the terrarium is being kept in a room that is too cold, the water level will need to be replenished more often than if the terrarium is placed in a room that is a bit warmer.

There is no specific time frame that must be followed in order to water a terrarium. It is not a requirement to water the terrarium once per day, per week, per month, or per year. Just make sure that the water is being gotten to all of the plants. Remember, just because the plant requires water does not mean that the terrarium is dry.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that the size of the terrarium will affect how often to water the plants. Watering a large terrarium will take longer than watering a smaller terrarium. You can use a timer or just keep taking care of the plants yourself. The water will eventually get out of proportion in a larger terrarium and over time the plants will wilt. Therefore, a terrarium should be proportioned appropriately to the size of the terrarium.

How much water to feed the plants in a terrarium? This is largely dependent upon the type of plants you have. Some plants will need more food than others and some require less. For example, do you have a tropical plant or one that is desirable like a Java Fern? The answers to these questions will influence how often to water your terrarium.

Also consider the climate of the area in which you live. If you live in a place with very hot summers and very cold winters, the amount of water needed by your plants may be substantially different than someone who lives in a milder climate. Also think about the amount of sun your particular species of plant will receive.

If you’re trying to figure out how often to water a terrarium, remember that some species of plants will actually benefit from being “watered” more often. In particular, Java Fern will grow much faster and longer if it is given ample waterings. On the flipside, certain species of Fennel will not grow at all if water is not frequently delivered to it. These are just a few examples of what you need to keep in mind when deciding how often to water a terrarium.

How often to water a closed terrarium can be difficult to answer simply by measuring how much water has been dispensed over the course of a day. It’s best to check the water levels a couple times each day, especially if you notice that the water level in your terrarium has been consistently high for several days. This is most likely the case if your terrarium has been closed for a few weeks. When in doubt, you can always give your terrarium a good watering. Just make sure you don’t flood the terrarium!
